The story so far

The Atlantic has never done this before — at least not in over a century. The season blew past its historical peak on September 10 without a single hurricane: eight named storms, zero hurricanes, zero majors. Forecasters say a completely hurricane-free season — something that's happened only twice in the modern record, in 1907 and 1914 — has to be taken seriously. The culprit is the supercharged El Niño shearing storms apart across the tropical Atlantic, though the Gulf is record-warm and October has produced monsters before. Six weeks remain. The season that couldn't produce a hurricane gets one last chance.

How this resolves

This resolves YES if a hurricane makes landfall in the United States between now and November 30, 2026. Landfall means the storm's surface center crosses the coastline with the National Hurricane Center reporting maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or higher. The feed is official National Hurricane Center advisories — the initial advisory reporting the landfall governs. No qualifying US landfall by November 30 means NO.
